Shairanwala Gate

Shairanwala Gate is one of the four entryways which once opened on the waterway front north of the Walled City. It was named after Khawaja Khizr, the supporter holy person of running waters and streams. The Gate & its neighbourhood were so named for the reason that there was a ship on the River Ravi before it. It is otherwise called Sheranwala Darwaza, for the reason that Ranjit Singh is stated to have kept two lions in cells before this door. The Italian traveller Niccola Mannuchi, who gone to Lahore in 1667, has named it as Qadri Gate however gives no purpose behind this.
